Set in a small Oklahoma town in 1960, “To the Stars” explores the deep and complicated friendship between two teenage girls, Iris Deerborne and Maggie Richmond. Iris, living under the emotional abuse of her mother and the bullying of her peers, finds solace in her solitary swims in a local pond. Her life takes a turn with the arrival of Maggie, a bold and worldly new girl who defends Iris from bullies and introduces her to a new realm of possibilities, including challenging the town’s narrow-minded views.
