The World Is Not Enough (1999)

Bond returns for his 19th adventure in “The World Is Not Enough,” setting off an explosive chain of events that takes him from the banks of the Thames in London to the far-reaching corners of Central Asia. Sir Robert King, a wealthy oil magnate, is killed in a bombing at MI6, and Bond is sent to protect his daughter Elektra. Elektra, who had previously been held ransom by the terrorist Renard, is developing a pipeline through a turbulent region. Bond discovers that Renard is the one behind the plot to kill King and might be targeting Elektra next. The movie masterfully juggles action, drama, and an element of personal vendetta as Bond races against time to prevent a global catastrophe.

Our Review

While “The World Is Not Enough” might not rank among the best Bond films, it certainly has its merits. Pierce Brosnan is as charismatic as ever, and the supporting cast, especially Marceau, delivers compelling performances. The plot is intricate and offers some unexpected turns. However, a few elements seem too convenient, and not all characters are fully fleshed out. Nonetheless, the action sequences are top-notch, making it a worthy addition to the Bond franchise.
