Frank Leone, a model prisoner and mechanic from Hoboken, New Jersey, is nearing the end of his sentence at a low-security prison. Unexpectedly, he’s transferred to the maximum-security Gateway Prison by Warden Drumgoole, who seeks revenge for a past escape and exposé by Leone. Within the harsh confines, Leone encounters brutality from guards and inmates, led by the dominant Chink Weber. Despite adversity, Leone befriends other prisoners, with whom he refurbishes a Ford Mustang, symbolizing hope and resilience. Their efforts are crushed by Drumgoole, leading to tragic events that push Leone to the brink. However, Leone’s integrity and the support of select guards bring justice, allowing him to eventually reunite with his loved ones outside prison walls.
