Our Review

“9” immerses audiences in a brilliantly dark, dilapidated world, which, despite being devoid of humans, resonates with humanity more than one might expect. The beautifully grim aesthetics, coupled with a meticulously crafted environment, tell a story of survival, courage, and camaraderie. Each character, though non-human, emanates a tangible emotiveness, enabling the audience to connect and empathize with their plight and battles. Shane Acker ingeniously utilises the visual medium, allowing the film to communicate a deep, albeit melancholic, narrative without relying heavily on dialogue, but instead on the universal language of emotion and experience. A thought-provoking animated film that ventures into profound thematic territories, appealing to both an adult audience and older children.
