Six escape and are sheltered by the Canadian Ambassador Ken Taylor. The U.S. State Department seeks options for their exfiltration. CIA Agent Tony Mendez devises a plan to create a cover story that the escapees are Canadian filmmakers in Iran for a sci-fi film. Together with Hollywood professionals, they set up a phony film production company, establishing the pretense of developing Argo. Mendez enters Iran, providing the escapees with fake identities. Despite challenges, including a cancelled operation and a tense final moment at the airport, the escapees board a Swissair flight to safety. The mission’s secrecy is maintained to protect the remaining hostages, and full credit is given to the Canadian government.
