Argo (2012)

On November 4, 1979, Iranian Islamists storm the United States Embassy in Tehran, leading to 66 of the embassy staff being taken as hostages. Six escape and are sheltered by the Canadian Ambassador Ken Taylor. The U.S. State Department seeks options for their exfiltration. CIA Agent Tony Mendez devises a plan to create a cover story that the escapees are Canadian filmmakers in Iran for a sci-fi film. Together with Hollywood professionals, they set up a phony film production company, establishing the pretense of developing Argo. Mendez enters Iran, providing the escapees with fake identities. Despite challenges, including a cancelled operation and a tense final moment at the airport, the escapees board a Swissair flight to safety. The mission’s secrecy is maintained to protect the remaining hostages, and full credit is given to the Canadian government.
